Originally from Long Island, N.Y. Marlene enrolled in her first art class at the adult Education center in Syosset, L.I. She later joined the Suburban Art League in Huntington and studied with various teachers including Edgar Whitney, Fumio Kino, Zoltan Szabo and Eloise Gardiner Giles, who was her greatest influence. In Vermont she had studied with Jeanne Carbonetti, Robert Calrow, Lian Quan Zhen and currently with Gerard Doucette. Marlene became fascinated with and studied Oriental Brush painting which continues to have a very large influence in her more recent works. Marlene’s desire is to convey through color, motion and energy, a sense of joy and beauty and peace and perhaps even some excitement. Her fascination with the simple yet profound stokes created by the Chinese brush draws her to them continually. In 2004, Marlene attained Signature Membership in the Vermont Watercolor Society, and serves as the 2006 Treasurer.
