Peter HuntoonPeter Huntoon, a native of Rutland, Vermont, has been an active watercolor painter since 1994, creating representational works of art inspired by the New England landscape and its people. Huntoon regularly exhibits work throughout Vermont and his paintings are represented in collections across the United States, as well as in Canada and Europe.

Artist's Statement
My passion is art and painting. I love to explore the possibilities of a subject and consider what could, or should be. I believe it's the job of the artist to express the truth and essence of our world. Discovering and communicating that essence in an exciting, interesting manner that the viewer can participate in is my personal challenge as a painter. I tend to seek the very same attributes in art as in life; a positive perspective, unity, harmony, and balance.

My typical working method is to plan slowly, and then develop the painting quickly. I prefer to make important design decisions ahead of time. For example, I will choose a value pattern and color scheme that will best describe my emotional response to a subject. I then become free to use my experience and intuition to simply guide the watercolor medium, letting the paint, paper, and water interact with each other in a natural, spontaneous manner. This is where the real glory of watercolor sparkles and comes to life! By only suggesting details in a painting, the job of "completion" can be left for the individual viewer. It is here that the artist and the viewer share a moment of mutual communication and understanding that can transcend time and place.

Quality Commitment
All materials used in the creation of this original artwork are of the highest quality available. All paints are artist grade and rated light fast by ASTM. The watercolor paper is top quality 100% cotton and acid free, as is the matting used in the presentation. An acid free barrier protects the work from the foamcore backing used in the framing of the piece. The wood frames are custom made by the artist using lumber from local mills. If properly cared for this fine art will last for many generations.
